The Forestry Training Institute is located in Bomi, Tubmanburg, Liberia.
The students spend their entire semesters on the campus in dormitories, and eat daily meals in the on-campus cafeteria. They attend theoretical and practical classes in the same area for convenience.
Habitat diversity on FTI campus
The campus is nestled amidst small patches of forests, which provide on-site training grounds for various classes and trainings. These include a largely exotic forest near the entrance of the campus, a gradually restored native trees forest (tagged the Arboretum), and two mixed Palm farm forests. A small stream runs along the east side of the campus, and passes through the smaller of the palm farms. This provides a mosaic of microhabitats for biodiversity and, thereby, learning about biodiversity.
The presence of the various forests provide ample opportunity for students to learn to identify tree species and learn about different habitat components. The diversity of tree species is outlined in FTI’s Tree Atlas. The Herbarium, located on FTI’s campus, is also a source of learning content and training opportunity.
The campus’s rich greenery also provides much opportunity for insect life.
